Changes to the two page form should be as follows: ·Clinical Information should be moved to the back page. ·Services involved should be moved to the front page ·Date, hospital number and DOB should appear on both pages ·Signature, name in capitals, client awareness of referral should appear both pages ·Rather than adding individual practices to the Team List, the words “Independent Provider” with space for name, should be added before “Other” It was noted that Te Ha use this form throughout their organisation and Kaikohe have asked if they can also use it with the intention of using it throughout the Northern Region. Draft Kaipara Health Centre site Bicultural Policy: This was discussed at the Bicultural meeting. Title has been changed to Cultural Orientation Framework as it is only a guide, not policy. Wording has been simplified and translation of Maori word included. Janet will be consulting the Maori Directorate but noted that this framework was for the Kaipara site. Each area will take back from the Network Meeting to discuss but the onus stays with the Bicultural meeting. Raewyn will present changed copy to next Bicultural meeting. Business: Nomination for Nurse Rep on KCI Board: Nominations are required for Nurse Rep on the KCI Board. All nominations should be in writing to Raewyn by Friday (email: kci@nhl.co.nz). Raewyn will send out voting forms on Monday. It was suggested that call for nominations for next year should be done at the August meeting so that voting can be done at the September meeting. Each area should ensure that Raewyn has an up-to-date mailing list. Korero Contact: It was agreed that Cherry Waldron would replace June Henwood as the contact on the Korero. Julie’s Report Julie handed out the draft needs assessment survey questionnaire. The purpose of the survey is to find out what Nurse services we have in the Kaipara and what nurses feel we need in order to work on what projects we will be working on collaboratively. The District Nurses have agreed to fill them out for a week as a snapshot diary and will feedback to Julie to see whether the survey really works. An incentive to nurses to fill out the survey was offered in the form of a $50 voucher for Palmers, chemist or other equivalent. Bridget will trial the survey at Te Ha. As an update on Julies activities she has met with all nurses except DMC, Plunket and Coast to Coast. She has spoken to Susan Harris regarding collaborative planning with Te Ha for diabetes management. Julie reported on PHO funding which has been approved under SIA (Services to Improve Access). ·Pharmacists to give free prescriptions at DMC for those who do not pick up their prescriptions because of cost and other reasons. It is not advertised and is not available to just anyone. The GP makes the decision, often based on nurse input from triage. It replaces the Rotary scheme. Pharmacists are involved, making a record of referrals. It was suggested that a record of families who don’t fill their prescriptions would be useful to follow trends – there might be a possibility that some may not be getting disability allowances, etc. It also identifies needs for budgeting and other factors. ·Funding has been approved to extend the Immunisation Outreach programme. This will provide vaccination training and equipment. It also paves the way for meningococcal vaccine. Targeted children are in the 0-2 age band as this group are the ones reported on to the Ministry. This involves only 75 children. Julie is getting the equipment together and meeting with nurses to organise. Julie also spoke on Health Promotion Funding which has been approved fund a project in Te Kopuru. The subcommittee is looking at the issues involved. The three Nurse Integration Leaders are looking into the Ministry funded scholarships for Nurse Practitioners and postgraduate study. Applications close on 14 November and are open to all rural nurses. Last year 4 Te Ha nurses were funded. Funding appears to be based on the formula – complete Masters in 1 year, $5000; complete Masters in 2 years, $3000. There have been 3 applications from rural nurses for 1 year fully funded study to become Nurse Practitioners. The deadline for application for scholarships for cervical screening nurses is 31st December. We could not manage that and have applied to have the criteria reviewed. Hopefully we will be able to run this course in February. Julie attended the Nursing and Midwifery Expo at North Harbour Stadium. She was very impressed with the information on offer and felt it would be good to have something up here for nurses to see what is available from Massey, Auckland University, AUT, etc. Julie is going to put it to the Rural Nurses Consortium for these institutions to come up and show us what they have got. It was felt a Roadshow of the main educational providers would be great if it could cover all three areas, Dargaville, Whangarei and Kaikohe. It could be advertised in the local paper as many non practicing nurses would find it a good way of getting back into nursing. Meeting Closed: 1.40 pm Next Meeting: 12.30 Tuesday, 28th October 2003. Lou Jurlina, Candidate for the KCI Board Candidate 1: Candidate: Lou Jurlina Nominated by Rhonda Zeilinski Seconded by Cherry Waldron Nominator’s Statement: Nominee Lou Jurlina Current Position:Clinical Advisor with Te Ha O Te Oranga O Ngati Whatua Mobile Nursing Service Dargaville Qualities: Lou has worked for Te Ha for the last three years as a Registered Nurse specialising in the area of Tamariki Ora Health. She is committed to excellence within the scope of nursing and strives hard to help nurses achieve this. Lou has worked hard at developing an integrated collaborative approach with other stake-holders within her Tamariki Ora Role and I see this continuing. I have no hesitation in nominating Lou as the nurse representative and feel she brings a wealth of knowledge, loads of passion, commitment and a sense of humour. Candidate’s Statement: I intend to be an active participant representing nurses at PHO level on the Kaipara Care Inc Board, and I will utilise electronic, newsletters, meeting and site visits to connect and communicate with you all. I am a peoples person and if successful, I look forward to meeting with you all. Listening to your issues is important to me. Actively representing you is my commitment Keeping you informed is my obligation Jen Udy - Candidate for the KCI Board Candidate: Jen Udy Nominated by Janet Smart Seconded by Deborah Ashley-Smith Nominator’s Statement: Nominee: Jen Udy Current Position: Nursing Services Manager Kaipara Area Healt Services,Northland Health. Profile: Jen has worked within Kaipara for the majority of her Registered Nurse career – approx 10 years. In this time, she has worked as a ward nurse in both medical and surgical settings and more latterly in the management role she currently fulfills. Jen has achieved and maintains “expert” status on the Northland Health Clinical Career Progression scale. This depth of knowledge and experience in the Kaipara has provided Jen with a comprehensive understanding of the people, the place and the issues. Jen has a very clear and open management style – enhanced by her ability to listen. This is a fundamental pre requisite for this governance role which encompasses representation of all nurses in the Kaipara. This role extends across providers and Jen’s history of good communication with all agencies and individuals augurs well for her continuation as Nurse Representative on KCI Board. Candidate’s Statement: Thank you for the nomination and great write up Janet. As most of you know me, I will not elaborate on any personal details, but if anyone does want to know more, there is a staff profile of me in the 01 October 03 issue of Northwords! As the sitting candidate for the Nurse Rep position on the Board, I would like to thank everyone who voted in March this year where I was the narrow winner of an election between myself and June Henwood. I have actually sat on the KCI Board since July 02, as a NH rep when I took on the Nursing Services Manager’s role, hence I have had 15 months experience with the Board. During that time, KCI progressed from health co-ordination to that of a Primary Health Organisation (PHO), with changes to the Constitution, Board Membership and Business Plan. It was a learning curve to be a part of that evolutionary process and I believe it has put me in good stead to continue in the role. In the 6 months that I have been the Nurse Rep, I have been mindful that I not only represent NH, but also Te Ha, DMC and other Kaipara Nurses, and make myself available to all. I also acknowledge the attributes that Lou would bring to the role and think we are both worthy candidates of your vote. |
